Prior to founding Sena Consulting in the fall of 2007, Founder Sue Sena worked for more than a dozen years as a fundraising and communications executive in the nonprofit sector. Ten of those years were spent in the mental health advocacy and service sector, as the Director of Individual Giving and Communications for Fountain House, and the Development and Communications Manager for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
During her tenure at Fountain House, revenue from individual donors rose 500%; overall private revenue doubled. She also served as the Associate Director of Major Gifts for Planned Parenthood Federation of America where she managed the stewardship and solicitation of a national portfolio of 250 donors giving annual gifts of $10,000 or more.
Early in her career she managed a diverse team of urban youth volunteers with the inaugural AmeriCorps program in Jersey City, NJ. She has experience managing multiple fund-raising and marketing campaigns for organizations with budgets ranging from $250,000 to $55 million.
In 2003, Sue and a group of New York City activists founded the award-winning, non-profit organization, Swish, which engages straight allies in the global LGBTQ movement for love and equality. She has served on several non-profit Boards of Directors, currently serving on the board of The Swish Ally Fund at The Stonewall Community Foundation, leading the new grant-making arm of the organization. The Fund has doubled its annual giving every year for the last four years.
She is a member of the Direct Marketing Fundraisers (DMFA) Association and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Fundraising Day in New York Program Committee and Co-Chair of National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon). Sue is a graduate, leader and coach at Landmark Worldwide, a personal and professional development program. Sue’s direct marketing fundraising work is a 7-time winner of industry awards from the DMFA.
She holds a mini-MBA in Social Media Marketing from Rutgers University‘s Center for Management Development where she also completed her undergraduate degree.
